2- Comparison

1- Short Adjectives: - ► To compare between two persons or things, we can use :-

Adjective + er + than

♣ tall taller
♠ short shorter
►old older
♥ young younger
☺small smaller
► Ahmed is taller than Ali.
► The mouse is smaller than the camel.


► Adjectives that end in (y) after a consonant, change the (y) into (i) before adding (er).
♥ heavy heavier
♠ easy easier
► An elephant is heavier than a tiger.


► Adjectives that end in a consonant after a vowel, double the last letter before adding (er).
♠ big bigger
♣ fat fatter
♥ thin thinner
► A hippo is bigger than a dog.
► My sister is fatter than me.
2- Long Adjective:-

more + long adjective + than

☻ expensive more expensive than

♥ enormous more enormous than
► The car is more expensive than the bike.
► A brontosaurus was more enormous than an elephant.

2- Superlative:- صيغة المقارنة المطلقة
► We form the superlative by adding (est.) to the adjective and writing
the word ( the ) before it .

- Tall the tallest الاطول
- Small the smallest الاصغر
- Cheap the cheapest الارخص
- Old the oldest الاكبرسنا
- Young the youngest الاصغر
- Large the largest الاكبر
- Long the longest الاطول
 The black dog is the smallest dog in the picture.
 Ahmed is the tallest person in the class.
 Whales are the longest animals in the world.
♠ Adjectives that end in ( y ) after a consonant, change ( y ) into ( i ) before adding est.

- heavy the heaviest

- friendly the friendliest
- dirty the dirtiest
 Cairo is one of the busiest cities in the world.
 The blue whale is the heaviest animal.

► Adjectives that end in a consonant after a vowel , double the last letter before adding ( est ) .

- hot the hottest
- big the biggest
- thin the thinnest
 Manal is the fattest person in the class.
 August is the hottest month.
 Ahmed is the thinnest pupil in the class.
